What is a Hybrid Car? What are the advantages?

The high inflation of gas prices brings us to a new era of how cars work. Hybrid cars are the most efficient and economical solution to gas prices and sustainability issues of the day. In this blog, we'll talk about what is unique about hybrid fuel systems, their advantages and their disadvantages.

  What is a Hybrid Vehicle?

  The hybrid car is a term that refers to vehicles which use multiple energy sources. These type of cars usually uses gas and electrified engines at the same time. The electric engine is a key to preventing our fossil fuel addiction and is hugely important on the performance side. Manufacturers are using series-parallel, plug-in and mild technologies while producing the engines.

Different types of Hybrid Vehicles;

mild hybrid, one of the newest innovations in hybrid technology is that of a “mild” hybrid system. As the name implies, a mild hybrid system typically isn’t going to propel the vehicle on electric power alone. Instead, the system is used to give a small boost to the vehicle’s gasoline engine, typically upon acceleration from a dead stop, and to assist in removing the burden of power-hungry systems, such as air conditioning, on the gasoline engine.

plug-in hybrids, all of the hybrid vehicles that we have discussed thus far charge their batteries solely through internal means. The main difference with plug-in hybrids is that these vehicles can charge their batteries via external chargers as well as internal. As a result, plug-in hybrids usually have greater electric-only ranges than full hybrids. Plug-In hybrids essentially serve as a halfway point between full hybrid vehicles and fully electric vehicles.

series-parallels, drivetrains merge the advantages and complications of the parallel and series drivetrains. By combining the two designs, the engine can both drive the wheels directly (as in the parallel drivetrain), and be effectively disconnected, with only the electric motor providing power (as in the series drivetrain). The Toyota Prius helped make series/parallel drivetrains a popular design.

Meaning of the Hybrid

Quite simply, a hybrid combines at least one electric motor with a gasoline engine to move the car, and its system recaptures energy via regenerative braking. Sometimes the electric motor does all the work, sometimes it's the gas engine, and sometimes they work together. The result is less gasoline burned and, therefore, better fuel economy. Adding electric power can even boost performance in certain instances.
